What should my keyfob look like
Hey,
I just bought an '02 GT Conv. My question is what should my key look like. I got 1 standard key, and a keychain/fob with 2 buttons on it. I am a bit concerned as my car won't start without pushing one of the buttons, and the whole thing is held together with electrical tape. Is this factory equipment? Can I just order online?
Thanks

The factory key fob has four buttons, has nothing to do with the starting system or PATS, and is not held together with electrical tape. It looks like this:
It sounds as though you have some sort of aftermarket alarm...

The THEFT light should blink slowly when the key is OFF, and not be affected by anything done with the factory key fob.
The factory fob remote entry and panic functions have nothing to do with the Securilock (PATS, Passive Anti-Theft System)--that's what makes it passive. They are operated by separate and unrelated modules. You must have some aftermarket or dealer installed alarm system.
There was a Ford branded, dealer installed, alarm system made by Code Alarm, which was later sucked up by AudioVox. I believe they still offer some support for the Ford branded systems.
They were not extra high-quality, but were not horrible either--AFAIK they were only offered for a couple of years and then dropped when SecuriLock (PATS) finally got certified by the insurance underwriters.
Here are a couple photos of the Code Alarm box:
Does your key fob look like any of these?
