Ice Damage?? Bad crank sensor, what now??
OK, I was driving to work today in my 140,000 mile 2002 Mustang GT, and all of our snow hasn't melted yet, so I ran over a big hump of snow in the middle of the road. It scraped the bottom of my car for about 30 feet, and shortly thereafter my check engine light comes on. Now, it's running really rough, and I took it to Autozone to check the codes. They came up with 0305 and 0316 - bad crankshaft sensor condition and misfire on cylinder 5. I checked the crank sensor and did not see any obvious problem, nor any obvious problem with the plug wires. What do I do now?? Is there a way to check this crank sensor without replacing it? Do you think that's really the problem?

If you hadn't said something about riding the ridge, I would have suggesting checking the alternator. But with that said, I agree with checking over the wiring on the underside. If the sensor isn't reading, whether from the sensor being bad or a broken connection somewhere, the engine won't run quite right which could cause the misfire too. So fix the sensor issue first and that very well could fix the other issue.
