I bought a '00GT last march and the shifter always felt weird. VERY notchy and a lot of times it'd hit the gate when opening up and shifting 2 to 3. Then I sat in my buddies '03 GT and the shifter felt WAY nicer (he has a tri-ax...which i apparently had)...I take my center console off and it says Roll-X...WTF. The best part is...the dude put a Steeda shift **** on it so i really believed it. I've had a 67 with a C4 since i was 18 (I still own it)...so I wasn't too savvy when it comes to new edges (i still need to learn more about these cars). I wanna throw this ebay special into the bay...but b4 i do that, what shifter is best? My buddy's tri-ax is awesome...but my friend has a MGW on his GT-500 and he's saying MGW is the way to go. I like Hurst's look with the chrome shift lever but how's it performance wise? Its 220 for a Hurst vs 185 for a MGW for a T-45 and all i see is ppl talking about MGW. Thoughts? comments? should i go kick this dude in the b@lls for lying? haha

I think you need to pick which one YOU like. People will tell you based on what they like - and it might not be the same. Personally, I love the feel of a Steeda shifter.

I feel your pain my man. I bought a hurst STS (at least I thought I did) for a really good price (ebay). Went to the track and ended up damaging my syncros. Had to buy a new transmission which sucked. I now have a MGW (and love it) but have heard that the 5.0 and Steeda shifters are also good.

I've never tried any others but my MGW has short throws and does a good job. I can use the cup holder for a drink now though large containers still hit.

thanks guys...i like the feel of the steeda shifter too it's a hard choice...might go with MGW though just because of the reviews. apparently they wanted to put them in all of the super snakes and mgw basically said they were backordered and they wouldnt cut a deal for them...so ford bought them at retail and put them in the super snakes anyway!

I've had the tri-ax and the MGW. The throw on the tri-ax is a lot longer, I can say that much for sure. It also felt less precise. It was less notchy though.

You may want to consider that the MGW will loose its precision over time because its pivot will wear, our pivot has been tested to 1.5 million shifts with no measureable wear. So it may feel good at first, but will lose that feel over time. Ours will have a slightly longer throw when used in the lowest position.

Just a few weeks ago we switched someone who works for a direct competitor in our industry from an MGW to a Tri-Ax and he couldn't be happier. If people working for our own competitors are coming to us for a shifter, that should tell you something
