Default How to program second key ?

Hello, 96 Gt. Had a worn out ignition. Snapped key off in ignition last Saturday. Pulled ignition cylinder out and went to locksmith , he had an old one sitting is drawer . He recoded it for 50 bucks, The Ford dealership Said it was obsolete , and or couldn't find , or figure out what I needed. So I have the rebuilt cylinder and gonna get a second key. I think I programed it before , with the primary key first and turn to run for how long I can't remember ? Then the second key 5 seconds after wards until the thief light blinks three times ? Is this right ? Thank you.

When I needed a key re-programmed for my 2002 - it needed to be done with a special tool that Ford has.

Thank you. I had it done by a locksmith when making a second key. He put in the first key and turned it to run, and then the second key to run. He was saying that 96 was the only year you could do that ? Everything worked out.
