Starting a cold engine

Starting a cold engine
Do starting and immediately drive a cold engine have a severe negative effect on an engine? Here is my scenario: I live in Memphis, TN and so far this year it has gotten below freezing maybe 4 times overnight. I have to be at work at 7 am and by the time I shower, dress, and eat, I have no time to sit and wait for the engine to warm up. On my way to work, I don't normally get above 3.5K rpms, just because its early in the morning and i'm in no mood to gun the engine. So is there going to be a negative effect? I have an 03 GT with 60K miles. Thanks in advance.

read the manual that came with the car. it specifically says you do NOT have to let the engine warm up. i, however do. i gotta let the vortech lube itself up for a couple minutes (mmm... lube...).

Nanaki is right, the manual says that you don't have to let it warm up, but I do. I usually let it sit and idle for 2 or 3 minutes and won't take it above 3k rpms until it is at operating temp.

RE: Starting a cold engine
i like how my car runs when the engines cold. it seems to run better. i don't drive my car in the winter and have had it away for about 2 months now until april but i start it every once in awhile, not really to warm the engine up but to get the fluids running i suppose
