Default RE: Battery Drain

If you have a Fluke meter you can find out. First start the car and let sit idle for a little bit or take it around the block. Next take off the negative lead off the battery. Take the black lead of the fluke meter and connect it to the negative lead that you disconnected of the battery. Take the red lead of the fluke meter and connect it to the negative battery turminal. I forget what the reading shouldn't be higher then. I can find out tomm and get back to you. But this test will let you know if anything is taking a draw off the battery when the car is off. I would try that and a battery load test. Good luck, let me know what happens.

Default RE: Battery Drain

I'm sorry, but I'm getting the feeling you guys aren't reading my posts..

Previously I said, "There is a .42mAH drain on the battery," so I have obviously already used a multi-meter (don't think it has to be a Fluke brand) and found that I do have a drain..

All I was really interested in finding out was two things..

1. What (if any) are the common problem areas to check to attempt to locate the cause of the drain.

2. What should the drain be when things are working properly?

Thanks, Joe - -

Sorry man its getting late. Yeah you would have to keep the meter on the battery and start to pull out fuses to see whats the drain.

I doubt it's the result of an accessory being left on. These mustangs have retained accessory power, which uses sensors to detect if a battery is about to die due to something being left on (i.e. headlights, dome lights etc) and it cuts power to the accessories and saves enough charge to start the car again.
