Anybody tried Ethanol?
Has anyone tried running Ethanol in your mustang? I've been told that all gasoline 87-93 octane has a certian percentage of ethanol in it. Some of the gas stations in my area are starting to carry pure Ethanol (85%) which has a 105 octane rating! Its also about 30 cents cheaper per gallon. On the pump it clearly states "Use only with cars that are compatable" or something. Does this mean a car has to have something special to run this gas?

Check to make sure that your car is alcohol tolerent. If not and I believe that the mustangs are not, then the alcohol will render your fuel system useless faster then you can blink. Basically turning gaskets and rubber items in the fuel system into mush..

RE: Anybody tried Ethanol?
a few months ago there was a post like this and some people said they put some in with their regular gas and it worked and one guy ran out of gas and used it and went to a gas station fine, but noone was actually switching to this, i think it is only for certain cars

Man people need to use google a little more.
E85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) is commonly avalible at many gas stations. Yes it has a high octane rating but that is of no benifit to most cars with compression below 10.5:1 (ie most Mustangs on this site). More importantly, unless your car is a FFV (flex fuel vehicle) it is not designed to run on E85, and WILL be damaged after a short time. The fuel system and the computor are not meant to handle this type of fuel. MPG will also BE WORSE with E85, I don't care what your buddy says, it's simple chemistry. E85 has a lower BTU rating (measure of potental energy) than regular gasoline, therefor you need to burn more of it to gain the same amount power. There is lots of good info on the web about E85 and othe alternative fuels (bio-diesel) if you are more interested in the subject.
