Problem, Need Opinions
I have a straightdrive 99 Mustang GT. My throwout bearing was going bad, so I had the whole clutch replaced. Well, they guy who replaced it was someone who works for the Ford Company, but does mechanic work on the side. But about a week after I got it back, the same whining was coming from the clutch like before with the throwout bearing. But there were ttwo more noises as well. There was a whirring/roaring/whinning coming from the back end, and from the transmission area. The guy said he had changed the rear end fluid and transmission fluid, and the rear had a seal cracked that was spitting grease onto the underside of the car. He sealed that up.
Now when I took it back to ask him about those other noises, that were not happening before I took it to him about the clutch, he says he needs to replace the wheel bearings on the rear end. The right one was going bad, but he wanted to go ahead and change both. He said it was on the (18 or 811) gear and he wanted to change the strut bearings and boots while he was doing it.
The original clutch replacement, along with new spark plugs and fuel injector (cylinder 3 was misfiring), was $525. Now he wants another $300 for this. Could this have been caused by something he did before? Because I was only wanting him to fix the Cylinder misfire and the clutch, and wasnt planning on dishing out $800. I'm going to talk to a few other mechanics I know and see what they say as well, but I figured I might as well ask some Mustang Experts on here as well. Thanks for the help.
