Default labor costs

i was quoted today for my ring and pinion installation for almost $800 which included the bearing kit. my question is there seems to be peoiple who always say thats a crazy price, but added up it makes sense. $200 for the bearing kit (rip off i know) and $535 for labor. that works out to about 6.5 hours. im not sure but i used to put gears in cars in about an hour with shimming and everything. am i crazy or is that the real book time

No way. I think your getting ripped off. Cost me $400 for gear + lsd install.
$84 - Bearing Kit
$160-$240 - Gears
$150-$500 - For Install. <-- General Rates

Find a new shop.

I was quoted 800 bucks as well for parts and labor. I then called the same place when I got more serious about it and they told me only 300 bucks labor. I am assuming the first estimate was so high because he didnt know how much the parts would cost.... Try calling around more. I am sure you can get it done somewhere cheaper than that.

i bought all the parts on line and was only charged $320 for install. $800 seems way too much.

I think he is going through the same thing as me. Call them up and ask them how much it would be just to have them installed assuming you have the parts. I'm pretty confident it will be less than 500bucks... He probably just threw that number out there not knowing how much the parts cost.

FRPP 373 gears: 156.00
bushing/bearing kit: 75.00
speedo gear: 15.00
labor and oil: 250.00

far cry from 800.00 bro. Get your parts first, then get the quote on how much it cost to install.... call around.
