Default Low Oil subject in Michigan

Hey guys, I'm actually at work and only wanted to read through other posts about my low oil light problem, but I didn't find any.......which is why I hope enough people read this to add any opinions and suggestions.

Okay like 2 days ago, and much to my dismay I should have been checking my oil. Because after i started it up and let the car warm up when i got back in it the low oil light was on so I immediately went and got a quart of motorcraft synthetic 5w-30 (which is what i use because its winter) and put it in. So the car was only running about 10 or 15 mins before the light came on, but who knows how long it had been operating lower than it should be. I have been checking the oil the last 2 days and it seems to be fine.

My question is have any of you guys had this problem, just out of the blue having a loss of oil with no oil puddles or any smell of burning oil?

The car is 96 GT 2v 67K on it.

on my 98 gt, ill sometimes find it to be 1/2 quart to 3/4 quarts empty between oil changes, but its wierd because it seems like every other oil change this happens, so its not a constant leak or burn

I check my oil maybe 1 time a week

Okay because I have had my stang 6 months and this is the first time it has happened, so I guess I shouldn't get immediately worried unless it continues?

i'd say you're fine. was it parked on a steep hill? sometimes in my ranger i get the low oil light if i parked on a hill. hasn't happened in my mustang though. in any case the low oil light comes on when you are a quart low, not a big deal unless you've been hot rodding it around.

my 97 GT has a similar problem. For a while I couldn't find any reason to where it's going, then I found my oil pan and rear main are leaking. Bought the gaskets, still waiting on putting them in. My low oil light has never come on tho, I check it daily.

A simple check is pull a few spark plugs. See if any show oily crud on them. If they look grey then you aren't burning too much. Also, like mine, it likes to chug more oil in the winter considering all the internal seals get frozen overnight (and as a result contract)

so there are more places for the oil to go.

My 96 seems to be about 3/4 to a full quart between oil changes..
But anyways back to the poster.. Check the oil on the dipstick instead of following the oil light. You could not have been level and it tripped it.
