Default Need synchro help

My car grinds in when I powershift or drop into second gear. I'm guessing the synchro is on its way out. Does anyone know how much this should cost me parts+labor? Any info is appreciated.

okay so I take it you have a 95? My 97 GT is doing the same thing. Yes your synchroniser is working it's way out the door.... that's the gear that is most slammed and as such is the first to go out.

I have a complete synchro set sitting in my room, along with a fresh clutch. I am planning on doing these repairs myself as a learning project on my road to master tech status...

I have called around prior to this to various quotes. If you would want JUST THAT one replaced, do not bother. If you are gonna have someone crack your tranny you'd better have them put in all the synchros, you'll be glad later . The 2nd gear synchro is the last to be taken out, so the whole trans has to be apart to get to it, which is why I say that. I was quoted anywhere from $1000 to $1400 complete rebuild including a clutch (may as well while the tranny is out).

I bought a set of synchros on ebay made by tremec for $120 to my door, and a ford racing clutch king cobra from summit racing for $190 to my door... so I'm at about $310 so far... I am gonna have to buy a few hundred in tools to do this as well..

If this seems to steep you may want to look into finding a low milage tranny from a junkyard or a quality used one online. Usually can be gotten for under $500.

hope I helped

well I didn't mention the break down. Parts for a rebuild are about $200- $300. It's an 80% labor job...

anyway I gotta head to work, I'll check back with you later tonight

peace
