Default Cog belt driven....

Eventually Immma have to go 8-rib pulley with my System when I up the boost..... But I was wondering...... Can I just go ahead and replace everything with a Cog Belt driven system like you see on those Pro Race Cars where the Blower is all sticking out and you got this thick @$$ Cog belt driving it?

ive been reading about cog driven systems and most people seem to agree that it is not good for a street car, it put to much stress on everything from what ive heard.
there were a few comments about cog setups here http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...d.php?t=405875

I didn't know this was a sore subject... I used to want one because in theory it sounds awesome, "cool sound, zero slip." In reality all the shock of shifting and driving the car on the street is translated directly into the parts. Rather than slipping it just puts all the stress on the parts. I've seen first person a snout ripped off an eaton that had a cogged snout pulley, and my friend recently put one on his blown 6 speed camaro which resulted in a bent forged crank.

In my opinion cogs are great for an auto race car, but for a 6 speed weekend warrior I'd sell the thing and go with a ribbed belt.
"Whow , A coged belt will distroy this blower , There needs to be some slip. The snout, and berring will fail. A coged blower set up has a specific berring combo. made for super hi rpm.
The major thing is when you hit the gas and then let off, you know rap it . There is slip on asseleration and decel. this is how these blowers last, We are trying to stop most of that not all of it.
Oh And I think what you are talking about is a polly chain, that is still a belt , Not A steel chain, If so that will not work, or not for long . chain is too heavy.
nitro"
I can't go back and forth with you all week, the info I posted about the eaton
was simply to exemplify the amount of stress something like this setup will disperse over the parts not designed to deal with it. As far as my experience, here is what happened on my friends fully built 383 running an f1r with a cog... I have the insight to not even bother, which is why I have no, "personal," experience... I looked into this extensively back when I was plotting a procharger

quote from the dude

"the force that it takes to do this is mind-boggling......you can see how much the hub actually twisted, it didnt shear off the key's but it pushed them and deformed the keyways.....almost spun......totally elongated and deformed the snout of the balancer hub......."

And if he isn't running anything else on this belt, I'd still be very very wary... You say it's not tight, but what you still fail to understand is it has, ZERO play... see the pic I posted for results.. lol

We can agree to disagree here, no need to act like a hero my friend! I've seen plenty of information to support why you wouldn't put a cog on a 6 speed car... Just sharing, fyi... I'm very familiar with his setep
