crazy idea
First off, new here, but i'm not a noob to message boards. So I know to search and all that good stuff.
This is a general, but complicated question. I want to build a drag car, but not a mustang (don't flame yet). I want something different. Specifically a 96 Lincoln Towncar. It has the 4.6L 2V in it. Now there is almost no info for people modding Lincolns, but there is a ton for the 4.6L. I figure you guys can help me with the basics in planning out what I'll need to do to the car. Please offer up suggestions, and tips to explore them.
Looking to run low 11's. (btw, the car is 4040 lbs). I want to be able to pull at least 1 wheel off the ground at launch
Plans (so far):
built 4.6L - maybe
big turbo or SC
tub it or mini tub for slicks
beefed up auto trans and converter
new rear end?
ditch the air ride suspension
Hit me with some ideas, and hopefully no flames

not what i'd do but to each his own. i would use a lincoln mark 8 if your wanting to turn a boat into a race car though, they look so mafia-gangster-ish and they have a 4v motor in em, more potential there.
you def gotta do something about that weight tho, 4040lbs without a driver is gonna kill you.

Mark VIII's don't have quite the mafia look. the towncar does though
The Mark VIII has more potential, but I really want to do the towncar. Total sleeper car.
Other than gutting the interior, there isn't much u can do about the weight. Not replacing windows or anything like that either, I still want to drive it on the street once in a while.

I know a guy with one that has a 150 shot on it. The air ride suspension works very well when turned off for drag racing FYI. I read an article in MMFF about the early model 4.6 liters and going by what was said you need a 96 or newer block to handle the power it's gonna take to make that ship run. I don't think the intake from the linclon will fit PI heads so I'd suggest getting a 99 to 04 PI mustang motor, wiring harness and computer. Build the motor and put a good size shot on it and you should be good to go.
