well since the tire section is dead

what is the biggest tire i can fit on the stock 2001 cobra rims?

also if i got nitto 555r's do you guys take those threw the waterbox or just clean em?

 

assuming yours are 8 inches wide, you should be fine up to 275.

I have 275/40/17 555Rs, and when I go to the track, I go through the water box. They need a lengthy burnout though.

 

yeah you will roll into the water box with those 555r's. a 275 would be the biggest you can go. but the bigest you can go with that irs on a differnt rim is a 305 than you have some bolts that are in the way.

17x8= 275/40-17
17x9= 315/35-17

I have seen cobra guys run those sizes on those respective wheel sizes with the Nitto D/R since it is on the skinnier side. I also think you don't need to do anything with the IRS since you're not running a 10" or wider rim width. If you do go with a wider wheel(10"+) then you would need a 3/8" spacer and maybe have to either swap the IRS bolt for a MM one with a rounded head or filethe headdown.
