Default Improving my 2004 SC281.

Hey, I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 2004 Saleen SC281 Mustang. Right know it has only about 600 miles on it. I was wondering if anyone knew what can I do to it to make gain some more HP? Also thinking about switching out the rotors...any ideas for rotors/brakes? Cold Air kits? pulley? computer chip? any ideas? I am new to this sort of thing but I feel the NEED FOR SPEED. You feel me. Good.

Paulie,

There is no reason to change brakes or rotors....you have a Saleen.

Default RE: Improving my 2004 SC281.

Welcome aboard!

I think JLT makes a CAI kit that will fit your 2004.

As far as chip goes, go with whatever your tuner uses in most cases. I can tell you though, tuners don't have a lot of luck with Diablos in Saleens (you end up spending a ton of money for dyno tune time). SCT is the way to go.

Other quick mods would be 75mm throttle body (Accufab is a solid TB), 90mm mass air (Lightning if you're not thinking about going big country with your hp; go SCTif you want to eventually get above 500 crank hp....the SCT will cost you double what the Lightning costs though).

Chicane makes a 66mm superchargerpulley for your car. This is as small asyou can go without crazy belt slippage. Consider getting an idler pulley to prevent whatever slippage occurs.

If you want to get into a high-dollar upgrade, Chicane makes an upgraded intercooler for your Series IV supercharger. The original intercooler has rather large gaps around the edges that allow uncooled air into the intake, the "warmer" air causes the computer to pull timing, which robs power [:'(]). Unfortunately, the supercharger has to come off for installation....so you're looking at some moneyif you pull the trigger on this one and need to pay for labor (it's about a 6-8 hour job).

LFP makes upgraded heat exchangers and supercharger fluid cooling tanks as well. These are more accessible regarding labor, but don't help cool the forced air as much as the intercooler upgrade.

Gears are a good addition as well.3.73's or 4,10's are good all-around gears.

Check to see if you have the brake upgrade from Saleen. Like 1SLO85 said, there's no reason to upgrade your brakes/rotorsif the car received the upgrade.Upgraded brakes will be either Brembo or Alcon (forget what they were in 2004). Both are solid brakes!

Pardon the long-winded response. Stop by the Saleen subsection of this forum some time....there's a lot of folks over there with 2003 and 2004's (Series IV superchargers) that have done different things to theirs with varying results.
