They are a waste of money.....but if you have to have one, these are the best out there:

Passport
Bel
Valentine 1

Just get the one that omits false alarms the best.

If you live is a "windy/hilly road" part of the country their value is limited(radar is a straightline thing) however if you are in the flatlands, or on most Interstates, they work pretty well.

I have a "fairly close to top of the line" Cobra that has saved my butt numerous times. Get one that spells out the type of threat, instead of having only different coloured and/or positioned lights. Ka band is the most prevalent here in NE Florida, I have seen X band on a few PSA cruisers, and been painted by laser only 2 or 3 times in a couple years or more.

Buy one you can afford to toss away and replace every 2-3 years, the technology changes very fast and often this year's $175 model is 3 times better than last year's $300 unit. I've had 8 or 9 over the last 25 years and they've been worth every penny...

with the valentine 1 you can upgrade whenever you want if there is new technology out. you just send it in and pay a little bit of money and have the most recent radar. plus the arrows reallly help you out spotting the leo. you might think they dont but they help ALOT. i never speed in the city becase you are going to get to the place the same time speeding or not so why risk it? highway is where the detectors REALLY shine.i cant drive my car without it.

Valentine 1 ftw!! the arrows and "bogie" counters are worth the price alone. It is an expensive detector, but to me it is less like a radar detectormore like insurance against tickets. It really is the best. Just the other day,I picked up a speed trap in a fairly hilly section of road from over 2.1 miles away.Speeding is like sex. You know you want to do it, but it's just dumb without proper protection.
