stupid question what is the reason for the shift light? why do u need a light to tell u when to shift?

 

Shift lights are helpful when racing, because you can keep your head up and look where your going instead of staring at the tach. It becomes more and more helpful the faster/more powerful the car is (and the more gear) because the shifts come faster and faster.

You would be surpised how much shifting a few hundred RPM early can cost you at the track/in a race. No matter how good you are at shifting by sound, its not nearly as accurate as just wating for the light to pop on and then slamming it back.

I didn't think it would be a big deal, and I thought I was shifting fine... until I installed my light. Afterwards I realised I had been short shifting 2nd gear quite a bit... I was wanting to shift almost a 1/2 second or more before the light came on.

I love the shift light that I have. It is extremely helpful while racing. I have an Autometer Monster Tach now but, I will be going to either a mini monster or Raptor eventually.
