Do 18s really fill wheel gaps?

yea, thanks for pointing that out, 1.5" taller than stock will look ugly. a 1/2 inch would look better.
I noticed that the side walls on the 295/35 would be smaller than 285/40.. but the only thing that relates to filling up the wheel wells is the over all diameter, right?

Well whenI had 265/35s I couldnt stand the look. Now I have 275/45s and I still think it looks low. Maybe I just need a lowering kit. O and I have 18s by the way.
