you did not get the quote in writing beforehand, and you didnt do the right things to make him change it back to the original price before leaving his driveway.
What was he supposed to do?

Waste the rest of his day, and pay to have it taken back off?

If you drop your car off *hypothetical* to have the oil changed and they say it's going to be 30 dollars, but they charge you 60 because they could not get the oil filter off as easily as usual, you'd be in the same boat.

He's at fault a bit, he's admitting that. He does not need a bunch of wise guys telling him exactly what he should have done.
you are totaly right on both counts.. 1. he shouldn't have gotten a written quote, or done anything about the price change. he should have just left it to chance and let himself get ripped off like he did. and 2. he shouldnt expect people to tell him how they would have handled the situation after posting this on a public forum...

oh btw, incase you cant quite pick it up, that was all sarcasm.

oh man, I feel for you bro,

your biggest mistake in my eyes, is the fact that you posted this info on this board. Now you have everyone telling you what you should have done.

I know how it is to be excited and rush into something. Yes, they should have given you a quote, and no they shouldn't have raised the price without a phone call, that's ****ty business, but I understand you didn't want to be late to work so you just left...

Sometimes it costs $70 to learn your lesson.

I work at a shop..Sometimes- things take longer than neccessary. Thats part of the trade. A price agreed upon is the price paid. Looks like the guy you took it to is a whining, 'feel sorry for me, plz!'complainer, people like him get nowhere in life and he probably sucks at his trade.
you Got screwed.but its ok. just forget about it and have fun with your new mid pipe.
