Default New Torque Converter.....

Hey. Im looking at getting a new torque converter for my 99gt. I want something with more stall speed to help me get off the line faster. I plan on getting 4.10 gears too. Which converter do you guys recommend for a fun street car? Also, what can I expect for install price?

spend the money on a good one or your wasting your time. what kind of power are you putting down ?Have you done the j mod valve body swap ? if not you should start there. I have been 11.90 on stock converter. add your gears a trans cooler and the j mod then a converter when you need one. just my 2 cents

Minus boost, a converter will yield the best times in the 1/4 for an auto. Its well worth 800.00, heck its def worth more than a set of LT's. Converter/4:10's/DR's will knock over a second off of 1/4 mile times for sure. PI is a quality company, but from my understanding, their clutch material could use some improvement (I did use their single disc in my old 02 gt w/o any problems). Using a stopwatch, pre converter I was running 0-100 mph in about 11.6-11.8 seconds on avg, after the converter I run 10.5-10.7 seconds to a 100. Thats more than 10 runs as well, a definite improvement, but only with DR's, street tires are a waste.

from what I understand you want a multi disc or your asking for trouble. when the single disc goes it trashes the tranny as well. just what I have read?

A well built single disc with the proper clutch material can supprt 700+rwhp and same torque. My converter was actualy built with plans on a turbo/twinscrew upgrade down the track and Darin/BC said it would support my power plans with no problem at all. I am gonna have to invest in a well built trans as well, but Darin has that covered too...
