Default Head unit advice/recommendations?

Let me start by saying that I'm not selling anything on this thread, I know where it would belong if I was...and I know I dont have enough posts to sell anything yet...anywho...

I bought my 99 Mustang with a Kenwood KVT-715dvd DVD player installed, with 2 amps(Infinity) a subwoofer and speakers(all Infinity). I know absolutely nothing about car audio, but I know I do not need a dvd player in the car and I dont care much fo the thumping sub in the trunk, which I believe is a 12". I am going to have one amp, the subwoofer and the dvd removed and I'll sell them whenever. The DVD player is just too complicated for me with way too many setting and sounds, I guess I'm a simpleton

My question is, what would be a good head unit to replace it that would soundgood with one amp and the infinity speakers? I like it loud andclear sounding when listening to rock/punk/hip-hop etc..I dont need the bass of the sub but some bass would be nice. I'm looking to spend about 400 on the unit. I think I could probably get about $700 for the 3 things I'm selling, but who knows.

Thank you in advance to anybody who wants to share their input!

Jensen or Dual! They have a loud button that will blow your speakers................[sm=joke.gif]. I like Pioneer. I also believe Eclipse is overated (that's just my $0.02)

Any specific model from Alpine? Thanks....
which ever one you like and can afford. all Alpine equipment is top notch I always buy the middle priced stuff not the cheap Alpine and not the really expensive Alpine but the one in the middle. thats just how I do it with radios why buy the expensive one that will come down in price in a few months and why buy the old model?? stick with the middle if that makes any sense to ya

I like Pioneer myself. Pioneer and Alpine are probably the only brands i would run.

Thanks all, I appreciate it. I was looking at Crutchfields and both Pioneer and Alpine have good looking stuff for less than I would've expected, all with great features.
