j-mod & shift kit are not exactly the same thing . I have done both to my VB per Jerry's specifications . here is everything you need to know ...

1st thing you should do is get a cooler . I have this one ...
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku , but you dont need one w/ a fan . go to summitracing & find a B&M trans cooler kit . the kits come w/ all hardware you need to install . after that , do the j-mod , shift kit & get a TC . change fluid every 20k . mounting instructions are on the link in my earlier post . mount behind front bumper . and you will want to get a new tune , especially after the TC .

J-mod relies more on decreasing the time(enlarging holes in the orifices of the valvebody) it takes for the fluid to move around in your valvebody resulting in quicker and firmer shifts...w/no pressure increases, I do believe?
Shift Kits achieve a firmer shift at the cost of increasing global line pressure, amongst other things like taking out or adding spacers, springs, etc..to achieve the same results. It has been said that doing it the j-mod way is safer for long term reliability vs the shift kits that mess just soley w/the pressure...but many report no problems using either method to gain a firmer and quicker shift.
