Sidewall height or tire width better?

Sidewall height or tire width better?
Ok, im going to bite the bullet and get some drag radials. Ive already decided that im going to go with Hoosier drag radials...but i dont know which rims I want to put them on. I have my stock 17x8 rims and i have my current 18x9.5 TSW rims. My question to everyone is will i have better grip with a 275/40-17 tire on the stock rims or with a 315/30-18 tire on the 18x9.5 rims. The 315/30-18's might be stretching it on that rim but the 285s im running right now arent the widest i could run on these rims cus there is hardly any tire over the outter lip of the rim. So which tire would give me better grip??? Tires are only $10 different in price so thats really not a concern. So if you all could let me know opinions on what will hook better, i would appreciate it. And also, the 18's are heavier. Would that sway anyones opinions on which to go with??? Thanks for reading and for the help.

The wider tire would have more grip. But those will be expensive as hell. I say go with 275/40/17 on your stock rims. Hoosier dr's are the stickist dr I've ever ran so you shouldnt have any problem getting them to hook up that 240 hp you have

The hoosier 315/30-18's are only $210 a tire and the 275/40-17's are $198 a tire. So price difference really is minimal. But I hear what youre saying about the 275 being enough to hook up a bolt on GT...with gears and suspension soon.

You need more sidewall to get hook better in a straight line, but IMHO it's stupid to drive a tall sidewall tire on the streets.
The difference between the traction, especially on your car, in the 275/40 and the 315/30 will be negligable, so put the tires on whichever wheels you drive or use the LEAST.
You'll want to use the drag radials very little, and you can get alot of use out of them.

Yea, right now i dont use the stockers on the car like at all. they just sit in the basement. Im probably gonna be getting new rims this summer too anyways. So Im gonna put the d/r's on the stock rims, keep the tsw's for the daily grind, and use whatever wheels i get now for shows. Does anyone know what size spacer to run in the rear to make the stock wheels be out towards the lip of the fender more because they just sit too far in there for me to handle.
