im thinking about pulling the valve cover and taking a peek to see if there is anything out of the ordinary but it looks like a pain in the ***.

Hey man that is not a rod!!!! A rod is more of a clanking not a rattle.

Like you just said take the valve cover off and check the rocker arms. Thats the best thing you can do as of right now. Your miss is probably coming form the valve not opening.

But I do second that exhaust leak.

well on the crown vic forum someone said that they had the exact same noise and it was a bad lifter and a bent valve and the rocker was just floating around in the head.

same thing happen to me, but my lifter valley was broke and lifter was just floating around. If the rocker fell out the chance are the lifter came out to.

It is a bit weak sounding for a rod, but I have heard em like that before. The thing that is rod ish is when he lets off the gas, it knocks worse.

Honestly, mine knocks worse than that and I too ran it low on oil. I rebuilt it, changed the mains and rod bearings, I rebuilt the timing system and it still knocks. I am convinced that it's bad lifters, but I am not going to worry about it. If it keels over, I will get a PI motor and slap it in.
