I'm still not understanding though. When you say hook are you guys talking about racing or regular driving? You're saying street tires, so I'm assuming regular driving.
Even with a 10:1 gear ratio, you shouldn't be breaking the tires loose if you're driving like a normal person. You, know, slowly ease off the clutch and onto the gas, shift around 2000-2500 rpms. The guy said he isn't racing his car, so why the **** does he have to worry about "hooking" so much?

i agree with Teej and Dime. on the way to mustang week this year, i had the windows down cruising at 75. got 27.x mpg all highway. i drive my car everyday in rain snow or whatever. and i think with some better stocks and struts my car would hook just fine on the street, but i can light them up on command lol
only thing i miss is being able to go over 120 but i dont need to go that fast anyways.

One last reminder for those who didn't read the thread, nobody is comparing gas mileage, there isn't a difference.
I've made my point, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. OP GL with whatever you choose.

IF he's not interested in racing, or going faster, he would leave the car stock.
Why upgrade just a little bit, when you can upgrade to something better, and sacrifice nothing.
I've DD'd my 4.10'd 5sp GT for almost 4 years now, including one winter on **** tires. It does not take a genius to figure out how to manage the car when driving spiritedly, or normally.
And like someone else already said, to fully take advantage of STOCK gears you ought to use DR's....
The only reason someone should use 3.73's instead of 4.10's is a F/I car that is trapping well above the redline in 4th gear, or someone that is super worried about pulling 200-300 more rpms on the highway. And as already stated, that's solved by slowing down 4-5 mph *and improving your fuel economy while doing so.. lol*
My favorite argument is this one, "with 4.10's, you have to shift all the time, and more often".......as far as I know (and correct me if I'm wrong) even with a swap to 4.10's, our cars retain the factory original 5sp. That means you shift to 1st, then to 2nd, then 3rd, 4th, and finally 5th. (nobody has made that argument in this thread, but it's still my favorite, so i had to bring it up)

this thread is funny, people need to just give the OP their advise a reason for getting it and shut up. Let him decide, best thing to do is to ride in someones mustang with 4.10's or 3.73's (or drive if you can)
I have 4.10's and this is my DD, i have never tried 3.73's so i cant say anything bad about them. it was a big change going from 2.73's to 4.10's the fun factor increased ten fold. my favorite part is not having to shift down to 4th going up large hills at 55mph and going from 20 to 40ish without hitting the gas that much.
With the money that you stated you have I would say gears, good luck on your decision OP!
