New Stang! few questions
Well I picked up my new toy a few weeks ago. Its a 1996 Mustang GT black on black convertable (my wife would only let me buy one that was a vert). So far I can tell it has BBK shorty headers, Pypes SLP exhaust (loud), aluminum driveshaft, CAI, aftermarket clutch. I was told by the dealer (used car lot) that his mechanic took the casting code off the engine and it was a 5.4 L. After changing the brakes, swapping out the stockers for a set of 18" Cobra Rims and new tires I took it down to my mechanic to get it on the lift. We then replaced the dipstick and tubing (as it was plugged) and had to replace the transmission mount that was defective. high flow cats were installed to pass inspection.
My mechanic couldn't find the engine casting number though he thinks it is a 5.4 as well. There seems to be new engine mounts and he thinks the cylinder heads also look to be aftermarket. I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas to figure out what is under my hood. I am always skeptical of car dealers and my second thought is that he was just blowing smoke up my....
The car runs strong, (much stronger than I would think the stock numbers would put out) but that could be had with the many bolt-ons, tune, ?gears (who knows at this point).
My second question is about a supercharger. This will ultimately be down the road, but i was wondering if any of the systems (vortech, procharger, Novi, Kenne Belle) are compitable with both 4.6L and 5.4L systems if I have to find out what I have through trial and error. All in all I am excited to be back among the mustang ranks!
Thanks,
James

Hey guys,
I finally got the new 03 cobra style machined wheels and new tires that look great. New brakes now let me mash on the gas pedal without worrying if I will stop in time.
Here are a few pics of the engine bay. I noticed the intake appears to be stock for the 4.6L. The only peculiar thing is that the engine block is painted red. I don't think this was stock, so either he had the engine removed for some work and had it painted before it was put back in, or it is a new engine or block at least from another model.
I wanted to share some pics of the exterior and new wheels, but I took these at nighttime and they did not come out so well. more to follow this weekend.
Thanks for the help,
James
