550 lift cams will crush the valve seal in a NPI head and shimming the NPI springs will coil bind them with anything over 525 or so lift.

OP - if you are going to run those cams in NPI heads then get a set of Crower retainers and nothing else needed. However its probably about a 4-5 hour job to change the retainers in car.

IMHO - on a college kid budget I would run PI cams, sell the Comp cams, and use the money for a PI intake swap. Other option is sell the comp cams and get a set of cams with proper specs for a stock NPI head (I might know of a place that actually knows something about NPI heads)

damn nick give somebody else a chance to shine lollol. i was just going to say everything you just did (i know the info because you informed me about this topic when i bought my cams from you, but nobody need know that lollol)
if your on a college kid budget then slap the blower on and call it a day. u'll prob be around 290-320 hp range and the stock fuel pump can handle that. anything more ur gonna need to do what everybody else said bout the fuel pump

dang that sucks about the cams. i think that im gonna try and do the route of getting the retainers from Crower. I will go with the 255 lph Walbro and call it a day. I try to be modest but i have a little more money than the average college kid, thanks to a good snowy winter and a snow plow. What sort of hp would that produce with a good tune?
