I put a steering column in my nephews 1998 GT yesterday and when I went to start it, it cranked slowly then quit( It's been sitting with the battery unhooked for about a month). So I hooked some jumpers to it and it started to turn over again. Then it stopped turning over and the horn started blowing like it set off an alarm. I disconnected the battery to make it stop.
I put the battery on the charger last night. Now today, when I try to start it, it only makes a clicking sound coming from the anti-theft box trunk.
When I changed the column, I switched his keyed ignition switch. I put the original keyed switch back in today and it does the same thing. Any ideas?

 

Hey, I unhooked the battery for about an hour, then tried to start it again. Started right up.
