Default Rear caliper question

Noticed last week, that my rear passenger rim had WAY more brake dust than the others. Took the wheel off, and the pads look OK (havent taken caliper off yet). the inside pad is in contact just fine with the rotor, but the outside pad I dont think is - since the outside of the rotor is almost covered in rust.

Question is, what would cause this?

gut feeling, is a bad caliper - but why does it contact just fine on the inside only? I don't notice any pulling to one side when I apply the brakes.

I am going to look through my Hayes manual, but any tricks to these rear calipers with the ebrake?

Thanks
Dave

is it hard to turn the wheel when its in neutral and in the air? try to test for a dragging that way, if its bad you can turn the wheels in the air using the engine slowly and the one will turn and one will not (if its slow enough where the diff won't lock up).

the rear calipers are funny where you have to turn the rear piston to move it in, they claim you need a special tool but i always use big wrench and be careful of the rubber skirt around the piston itself.

good luck

While the pads are out, try to push and pull on the caliper (this is they same motion it moves in when you press/depress the brake pedal). The caliper should slide back and forth with ease on its dowel pins. If the caliper doesn't move freely with the pads taken out, then inspect the dowel pins. Sometimes their rubber boots tear, allowing the lube grease to leak out. If one or both pins are rusty or frozen into the caliper, then you 'll know that the caliper hasn't been working. If everything is fine with the dowel pins, then remove the caliper and try to turn the piston back into it. It should go in fairly easily.
