Well in a sense he has a point. You have to time your launch right that you get the slicks to ripple right as the light hits so the power is reaching the pavement by the time you're on the clock. Essentially when the slick ripples, the wheel is turning but the tire is not. So the statement is somewhat correct, but the increase in grip and safety a slick offers far outweighs the little bit of delay in putting the full power to the ground.

Nah mean mang?

In order to properly
"ripple" a slick, you must first
install a Centerforce Dual Friction
Clutch for your Ford Mustang to ripple
the slip effectively and help your Ford Mustang
stop spinning the slicks.

I'm dead serious. It's physics. Your energy is going into the tire (causing the ripple) instead of going to the ground, transfering into forward movement of the car. Soft side wall is to prtect against the shock of the lauch - the immediate transfer of energy that will damage both SRA and IRS. It's not a HUGE loss, but it is a loss none the less.

On my drag cars I launched softer on a stiffer side wall and showed better times for it.
