welding your torque boxes?

The problem is not that the OEM spot welds are a bad way of doing it, just that they are too few and far between to accommodate loads that are far in excess of the design goals.

'Twas me I would just add simulated "spot" welds as described above (drill through one surface, then TIG the hole)--or grind through the "roll" at the mating surfaces and TIG the whole length of the joint...
Yeah, knowing what mustangs will be used for and how the 4-link works, they sure could have made the boxes a bit stronger.

It should not move at all relative to the body/chassis, what make you think it should?

Any competent welding shop should be able to do it, in fact a really competent shop may have better alternatives--I haven't done this crap in years. That said, there's not a bit of "rocket science" involved...

ok thank you and i did not think it was supposed to but since you was saying to spot weld instead of welding all the way around the torque box. Haha sorry stupid question i had a dumb moment, but thank you everyone for your advice ill have to look at mine and see if they started to crack yet or not but regardless i think ill just get it done anyways. Thank you

If you are going to be spending any considerable amount of time at the drag strip it is definitely a good idea. $100 in parts and a little elbow grease will help prevent you from needing serious repair in the event of the boxes actually separating from the body.

Also known as battle boxes are fairly easy to install. We bolted my buddies in. They work great. Eventually we re gona end up tacking them into place. Great investment if u ask me especially for you 4 speed guys because there is so much stress through the drivetrain when you dump the clutch. I will be doing some on my auto soon.

+1 the only b!tch with it is the metal has to be super clean unlike mig which should still be clean but its not as important.
