Question new here to forum and mustangs, need help

I just bought a 2004 GT Convertible with 23658.0 miles on it in perfect condition. It has 4.6 v8 and a 5 spd tranny. Flowmaster exhaust with H pipe.I'm not wanting to go into the motor yet so where do I begin for better performance?? Cold air Intake? tuner ( which kind)? chip? I'm lookin for you long timers that have already tried and know what works and what does not. Just asking for help where to get started and with what.

Gears and a tune are your best bet. With your mods a canned tune would do fine for now, but that's up to you. I used to run a SCT hand held on a 93 octane tune and it did fine.

Don't waste you time and money on a cold-air intake. The intake ford put on our mustangs is a cold-air and you won't see any performance gains. As stated before, some gears would be a great first modification. I would recommend 4.10 gears. A hand held tuner such as a SCT will properly recalibrate your speedo and you'll notice a gain in performance. I would recommend lowering the car, better brakes (cobra brakes will suffice), and a short shifter (I have a MGW and love it).

The most important thing for you to ask yourself is what are you goals for the car? IE: do you want to drag race the car, autox the car, DD the car, or have a fun weekend car. From there, the members on the forum can better help you with modifications to make to your car. Welcome, and good luck!

Thanks for the replies, Right now it will be a DD as well as a weekend funmachine. I also have a 05 jeep wrangler unlimited and a 07 Chevy Avalanche to drive so I am going to take time to do this Stang right as I go. I will not be dragging it but I don't want to be beat up all the time. Hope this help with your suggestions. I will post pics soon.
Thanks for help so far.
