I have a 1997 V8 GT Auto.

After having great success with a Transgo shift kit in my Jeep Grand Cherokee, I am very keen to do the same to my Mustang.

I have heard a lot of negative comments about the Transgo kit for the Mustang - like it will break your tranny - or have there been changes to the kit recently to address these issues? A number of folks on the forums are reccomending the "J Mod" instead, I will research this option.

I am also going to put in a higher stall Tourque converter, probably a 2800, to keep it good for daily driving. The stock one locks up at 1800 rpm, I have however read more than once that the stock one locks up at 2800 - I don't believe this. Stand on your brake and hit your throttle, you will not get above 1800 rpm.

As with any tranny mod, make sure you also fit a tranny cooler, trannys run at around 200f, a good tranny cooler can lower this down to 180f, doing this alone can double the life of your tranny.

Any advice on shift kits and Torque converters would be most welcome.

Cheers
