Nice Cobra. I drove a white '96 SVT when I was 'stang shopping a few weeks back. Needed just a little too much work for me.

In regards to figuring out if my car has been tuned, I took a look at the ECU and it has a green mark on it. Is that significant at all?

nah its not Just get a handheld for that thing even after ppl tune their cars with a tuner if they sell that vehicle they usually return it to stock and sell the tuner. Sl alot of ppl label their car "diablo tuned" or "sct tuned" bc they have tuned it with a handheld but like I stated ppl usually return it back to stock and sell it/the handheld.

You're not going to figure out if your car is tuned by looking at the PCM

bkelley you need to pull the pcm out, and at the top of it there will either be a plug in it, or a chip sticking out, if it's a chip then it's got an sct chip tune. otherwise, there's no real way to tell if it's got a tune from a handheld.

Still need to pull the pcm out and look for a chip, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been tuned. I emailed a local tun shop (guy who runs it is actually the VP of Dynojet) and he quoted me $600 for "A true custom tune with dyno results, AFR results, and hi-speed OBD2 datalogging and an SCT Xcal3". Not bad considering the tuner is like $380 alone. After I get my exhaust and gears done I think I'm gonna save up for a custom tune from him.

You want really need a cutom tune unless you do serious mods like heads/cams, or a blower. Sure you may squeeze out a few more hp with a dyno tune with the current mods but it really isnt worth the $600 it will cost you. The handheld comes with preloaded tunes in them already. Save money for a dyno tune when you get deep into mods. And you can get a used handheld tuner for as low as $150 or so as long as its unlocked it will work just like new without the price of a new one.
