My experience with nitrous is limited but I have successfully installed a system before and properly tuned it. It was a six cylinder and was running good until it got more power than the rods could take. I haven't decided on the kit just yet I may stick with a Zex kit since that's what I'm familiar with. The wet kit is good to 175 which is a little less then I want but it means I can run my stock fuel system. The car is going to have to get tuned for the gas to richen up the top end though just to be safe. If you're looking for nitrous on your car just remember that for every 75-100HP you add you should use a spark plug one heat range lower. And for every 25-50HP take out one degree of ignition timing.

You don't need to pull a degree of timing for every 25-50hp. Once you go to a true 125-150 I'd look at pulling timing. Below that, you'll just make it a turd. Back on my old (stock) motor I ran a NX 100 shot untuned for many years with zero issues on pump gas. Those that know me know that I'm not one of those nitrous guys that sprayed on occasion. I kept a 50# cylinder at my house at all times so I could fill it at any moment. When I pulled the motor out (at like 120k miles I think) it looked pristine. Showed no signs of abnormal wear, detonation, nothing. If you plan on stepping it up to a 200-250, yes, you'll have to pull some timing for sure. You should probably also run a small standalone fuel cell witha dedicated pump for the nitrous. If you do plan on running a "true" 175 shot, there's no way in hell I'd do that on the stock pump, or rails.

I also wouldn't start off with a 175 shot with limited experience. 75-100 shot is PLENTY to start with. Make sure you have all the proper safety equipment or else you may end up fvcking your chit up and giving nitrous a bad name. Quite often when something goes wrong, it's user error. Most people have too much pride to face it say they just say "eff it, I just popped me I take, nitrous sucks!"

That's all just my opinion. But I can assure you that after running probably HUNGREDS of "bottles" over a 8-9 year span, my experience isn't limited.

Thanks for the input. I'm certainly not going to get right in it with the 175 shot. That's a lot of new power to get used to. I'll have to look into the fuel system. That sixer was running a 175 wet shot and a blower on the stock pump and rails with no issues. I don't know about the fuel rail diameter but I'm pretty sure it's the same pump. Before you say it, I do understand it's feeding two more cylinders. I'm more of a play it safe and don't grenade my car kinda guy anyway so it's likely advice that will be heeded.

Just curious, do you have any recommendations on the kit to use? I plan on running something with a WOT switch in series with a window switch to turn it on at 3000 and off about 300 before fuel shutoff.

I personally like a wet kit. With that being said, NX is always my choice. When you sit their solenoids next to other brands (not sure about all of them, but the ones I've seen) they are beefy. The quality of their kits are second to none. I ran their GenX II kit http://www.nitrousexpress.com/produc...ls.php?id=1357 and a MSD digital window switch http://www.4wheelparts.com/Performan...q2EAqg#active1 . If you plan on eventually running a big shot, I'd get either a 15 pound bottle or two 10 pounders and run a Y fitting from the two bottles to the main line.

They have a Ford Race kit that adjustable from 100-250 http://www.nitrousexpress.com/produc...ils.php?id=783 (of course you can always find it cheaper elsewhere, it's always more expensive to buy prats from the manufacturer than one of their distributors)

Keep in mind, it's been a while since I bought all my stuff, their may be new, better stuff out that I don't know about.

I was looking at my original receipt from June 10, 2002:

Amount: $770.00
Subject: NX kit
Note: This bill is for the following items... Single Nozzle NX Kit $445.00 GENX-II Upgrade $310.00 Shipping $ 15.00 ------- Total $770.00

I got my window switch elsewhere.

I mounted my window switch in my glove box and my bottle was right behind my rear seat. I had dark tinted windows, if I would I could reach back, and open the bottle and nobody would ever know. It also save me from having to buy and electric bottle opener.

Thanks a lot. I'll have to look into that in a few months. The new engine hurt the piggy bank so for now it's getting an all motor tune until I can get the money together.
