pats malfunction
I'm a newbie here. I've searched as best I can to try to locate a thread pertaining to my problem. I only found one thread that gave some insight, however I'm hoping to find some more information on my issue. I have a 2001 GT. Yesterday it went into anti theft mode. Theft light flashes quickly and wont start. I thought maybe might be my key. So I had it towed it to the dealer and had them make me a new key(220 bucks later and price of the tow) to no avail, still flashes quickly and won't start. Towed it back home as I'm hoping to fix it myself, being that its not the key. I've tried resetting the system with the on position key method for 15 minutes till the light went off, tried, still the same. Tried disconnection of the battery for couple hrs, still the same. I didn't expect either to work but tried anyways as that's a free. At any rate, my next step is to change the pats transceiver. What I'm hoping for I guess is for a few people to chime in as to this being a somewhat common problem?? Or to steer me in the direction of what else it could be?? Thanks in advance

These things have no "anti theft mode", as you call it. The computer simply identifies the key when it's turned to on; if accepted the indicator light will light solid "on" for 6 or 7 seconds, then go out, indicating the key has "passed" and starting is accepted. Turning to "start" before the light turn off also turns it off and the engine starts.
The ignition lock cylinder in the steering column is surrounded by a small PATS Transceiver with identifies (or denies) the key being used. It signals computer "OK", start car. So, either the key is the wrong key (or gone bad, very rare), the transceiver has gone bad, a wire connection may have broken loose, ;connections to the transceiver are very delicate, may be accessed by removing the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
I was able to figure out the problem. This car is new to me and I was not aware of previous ECU flashes that were done on the car. Turns out the PATS has been bypassed when the SCT supercharger was installed which caused the theft light to flash when starting. I thought the PATS was disabling the fuel pump but it turns out the fuel pump is bad and the PATS was bypassed causing the theft light to continue to flash. I assumed the PATS was the cause of the pump not coming on when the pump was bad the whole time. I swapped the fuel pump and it's running now. I will now attempt to get some other things fixed and list it for sale. 2001 GT with SCT supercharger. Total of 40k miles on the car.
Should be going up for sale soon.

Thanks for the heads up. It has a big SCT on top of the supercharger so I thought that was the maker but I guess not. Looks like I have quite a bit more of research to do now that it runs. I'm sure I'll be back with more stupid questions. Thanks for the help and not roasting me.
