Default Rust Advice

I have a 2000 mustang gt and it has massive rust on the motor mount frame rail. My original plan was to pull the engine out and fix all the leaks, and while it was out, I wanted to replace all the rust with new sheet metal. Everyone I talk to says to scrap the car. Mechanically it is awesome, well in my opinion anyway, and it still has super low miles. However, I've been told the amount of money to repair it wouldn't be worth it. Is this really true? I want to weld on new sheet metal myself, and by myself I mean without going to a car shop. I'm never getting rid of this car so I'm either driving it until my front end falls through then parking it, or fixing it and risk that it might sit forever because it's getting older and more things will need to be replaced. What to do I must also mention, this is my only car to drive
