I might be alittle out of place here , but i've got 4.10 gears in my Chevrolet Express 5.0L 305CID. cargo van, and i can leave stock mustangs in the dust. I drive about 400 kilometers a day for my job in this van, and it doesn't matter if i've got 1200LBS. of freight in the back , it luanches with no hesitation. The guy at the shop thought i was crazy for putting these gears in instead of the stock 3.24 gears that were in it, but i had to insist that this is what i wanted. I run about 400 rpm over at 65 mph, and i am at 3200 rpm at 100 mph. The limiter kicks in after that so as for running out of gears, that is non-sense. The gas mileage hasn't really changed enough to regret the gear change but the ease to which i can carry freight is well worth it. After putting in a high stall torque converter i have to start thinking about ways to keep the rubber from spinning but nothing air bags or old fasioned traction bars wont fix. you see mickey thompson doesn't make a tire for cargo vans

this is not a shot against mustangs, but rather against the low gears they come with. I love anything that goes fast and loud.

What tranny do you have? If you have a manual and plan on running a Twin ScrewI say 4.10s. 4.30s may be OK if you run a centrifugal or while your on 20's and N/A. If you running an Auto 3.73s

wow great forum.. quick response.. i have a manual.. i haven't looked into which SC to get yet (probably a year away). I would like to build up the rest of the car to support it first. but i will say i tend to look for the best products.. so if a twin screw is better than a centrifugal, then i would be getting a twin.. but i suppose SC questions are in another post

There is nothing wrong with 4.10s on an auto IMO, just check the link in my Sig, 0-200km/h or 0-125m/h with 3 mods only (4.10s, Tune, Pulleys)

It turns 2500rpms at 70, enough for me.

One form of FI isn't always nessesarily better than another, it all depends on what you want.

I will mirror the prior comments. I have had 4:10's in my manual for a month and they are OUTSTANDING! I use to cruise at 80 @ 2500 rpm's and now at 2800. A whopping 300 rpm variance. The car pulls out of the hole like it could pull a house of it's foundation and 5th is much more reactive to throttle. I have no regrets at all. Mile fuel mileage went down by a whole 2/10ths of a mile and part of that is my loving the extra torque! Just do it!!!!
MusiccityGT - Since this is the Energizer Bunny of gear threads let's bring it back full circle. You post has inspired me because I've always heard about as 500 rpm increase at 80 mph...is it really only about 300? Also, I LOVE the metaphor related to the new found acceleration power!
