4.10 GEARS STUPID???!!!???

RE: 4.10 GEARS STUPID???!!!???
I concur with the group. In a NA car, 4.10s are a big time grin factor. I threatened to regear mine several times and just never got around to it. Now that I have the SC I still want to do it, but am also thinking of either 3.90s or 3.73s. 1st gear winds up quicker than I can get to the clutch as it is with the 3.55s

I agree that some stickier tires might help. Not sure how better shifting will help. I'm not using the clutch at all. Mine breaks the tires loose at about 3000 rpm. I'm just wondering if I would regret getting taller gears if I'm already having traction issues. Maybe I need to address the suspension first.

Thats not a gear problem. Thats a tire, and person shifting problem. LOL!

Has anyone put 4.10's on a supercharged Mustang? Would it be too much gear? I'm already bouncing off the rev limiter in first due to wheel slipage.

No, seriously...Address the suspension, and get yourself a set of MT ET Street Radials.

Looks like the Ford Ones are favored in this post. Any other opinions?

The motorsport gears are usually a little easier to install. From what I understand a little quieter than others. But gears are gears. Doesn't really matter which ones you buy.

Gears multiply torque and torque gets you moving. A lower gear (higher number) will get you going much faster than a taller (lower number) gear.
In a manual transmission, you will rev about 200 more rpms at speed with the 4.10s than you do with the stock gears (3.55).
In an automatic, 3.73's are recommended and and they too will increase your revs approximately 200 rpm at speed over the stock gears (3.31).
You should tell your friend he hasn't got a clue about gears or how they work!
Hope this helps.

Had the motives. They made noise. Double and triple checked the backlash and pinion depth, etc. no help. Yanked them for laser cut Ford racing gears and they are quiet as a mouse, even with the race version LTAs and panhards I am running.
Not saying Motives are bad, just didn't do it for me.

I noticed on the Mustang Tuning site, they also offer additonal items to purchase with the 4.10's. Do I really need to purchase either the Install Kit, or Master Bearing Kit?
Car only has 3,000 miles.
And is any retuning needed with this upgrade?

The gear set from Ford racing includes pinion shims and a new pinion nut. Still a good idea to get the install kit with carrier shims and also a new pinion bearing. They are heck to get off without a press. Unless you have a bunch of experience, I would not tackle it yourself. The 8.8 can be a bear to get right. Don't forget to use the ford additive in the gear lube which is a synthetic.
