Default "Moan" in steering?

Okay, I was going out to eat tonight, when I notice a kind of slight "moan" whenever I turn the wheel. Not the usual whine from the power steering, but an actual lower "moaning" sound. Has anyone else had this problem? I sure as heck don't feel like letting my car sit at the dealership again while I drive around a POS Mitsu Lancer (NOT an Evo). Any thoughts on this?

yeah im having the same problems man, when i got my car from the dealer it was in PERFEEECT condition after the first oil service they did something to it which made this moan come, after 3000km of driving the moan changed to a cow sound whenever i turned, so i took it to the dealer and they exchanged some diffrential parts and the sound went dead but after sometime it came back but unoticable ( i could hear it though ) so then i took it and it ws gone this time for 500 km's and now its back again, i cant take it to get it fixed at the dealer now because im having an aluminum driveshaft, and i guess it will void my warranty.

a man i knw there said its ok to keep the driveshaft, but neer compain about a part that is connected to the driveshaft.

Steering rack noise...If the steering fluid gets changed,it helps remove some of the debris. These racks slowly wear out from the inside out.The debris it causes only makes it worse,so change the oil.It sounds like it's due and worthwhile maitenence(cheaper than having a new one installed.).

Well, I've only had the car for about 3 months, and just noticed the noise last night for the first time. I didn't notice it this morning on my way to work though. I just got the oil changed last....Thursday or Friday, so I may be making a trip back to the dealership... Yippee!

yeah same here... its when i got my car in first month... but i noticed something today that when the car is really cold ( not engine ) there is no sound until the temp rpm goes to middle then the sound starts coming.. i thought this sound comes while trying to slide rear end when traction is on ... but i dont think so now because most of my 06 gt friends have the same sound but not the 05 GT

My car was warmed up at the time. But when I first get in the car in the morning, and I hit about 60 mph on my way to work, my steering wheel shakes from side to side. Almost like the alignment is out, but it doesn't seem to be...

This sounds like the TSB on the Limited slip differential. I had the same problem, and the dealership fixed it with a new "clutch pack". the noise is actually cominf from the rear end. Do a slow u turn in a parking lot. If it makes the moaning noise, then you have it.

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely try that ASAP. Just what I want, to lose my 'Stang for a few dies... Oh well, if that's what it is, I'll have to get it fixed.
