gear break-in?

gear break-in?
Okay this morning I ordered my FRPP 4.10s and install kit (not to start another war but wanted to stay away from the Motives, just in case you know?) from Summit, should be here later on in the week, and found a good gearsetter, got my fluids, additive, rtv, replacement inner pinion bearing and race all lined up...my question is, is there is a break-in period for gears, or do you just get in and start pounding on them? Should you change the diff fluid soon after, or just stick to your regular maintenance interval? My last gear swap was 3.73s on a 90 GT, and I don't remember breaking them in or changing the fluid after x amount of miles...
...thanks guys!

RE: gear break-in?
You shouldn't need to change the oil after 'x' miles but there is a break-in period of 200-300 miles. Some will argue there isn't but how you wear-in your gears will have a lot to say in the future for wear and noise.
I don't have a recommendation for what you need to do to break them in for the mustang as my experience is with trucks. I'll leave that to someone that has specific experience.

Yes give them 300-500 before you get on them is what I have been told....I got 3 quotes for my install today....325, 350 and 390.....I am going with the 350 because this guy was recomended as he races alot and knows his ****....its about an hour drive but I think its worth it. They said they should have or be able to get parts if the install kit I have doesnt have everything. I will be gong in sometime next week.

Note my son has NEVER broken in gears on either of his Mustangs, and went straight to the track the day after each install. One Stang is still going strong with nearly a hundred runs at the truck, and it's his daily driver.
Me, I drove the full 500 miles before getting on it...

^^^ stands for Room Temperature Vulcanizing. Ford 8.8 diff coversuse it nowadays as opposed to the old style cork gasket. Should be the red or black colored stuff (blue is for water pumps, tstats etc.) It's silicone.

^^^ at any parts store on the planet, also any dealership, probably wal-mart also...probably want the red kind (high temp)...I got mine from ford only because I was also ordering fluid, additive and pinion bearing and race at the same time...
