Default Issues after Hurst install

Ok....recently a buddy of mine installed the Hurst competition plust shifter. The first two days were fine then on the 3rd while getting on the highway I noticed that the shifter was making a small rattleing noise coming from where the handle mounts to the shifter. If I hold that area the noise would go away. That night I check the allen bolts and their tight as hell. The next day was fine but then later on it started happening again. Any suggestions on what else to check? He's planning on going through everything this weekend. I also noticed that when the shifter is in the neutral position that I can lift up on it, like there's a little play there. It can lift up slightly then goes back to stock resting position. I checked out a Shelby GT at a local dealer and the Hurst that was installed was not able to do anything like this so I know there's an issue, we just have to figure it out.

Put some loctite or some other threadlocker on the bolts.

I have the Hurst short throw and there is no play at all, especially vertically.

Yeah.....we did put loctite on the allen bolts at least - the ones that attach the handle to the shifter. That part is not loose. We'll have to check everything else.

Wish I could help you out, but I had mine installed by the local shop. He did transfer a part from the old shifter to the new one. I also had him install the gasket from cobrabob to keep out any road noise.

I have a little horizontal play, but thats because I had to reuse the bushings from the factory shifter. I need to order some Steeda poly bushings and swap the crap rubber ones out.

We did transfer everything we were supposed to via the instructions as well I also installed one of the gaskets from cobrabob as well. I'm thinking about exchanging it for another. When it was working fine I loved it!
