5.4L GT

5.4L GT
I have been considering the idea of putting the 5.4L truck engine in my mustang gt to keep an N/A setup. I can get a motor for $2000 so it is considerably less then a supercharger. My questions are: would the motor drop in and bolt up, and what could that motor be tuned to put out, stock it is 300 hp, 365 ft lbs of torque. Doesn't seem like much of a gain but if it can be tuned for a huge increase than it might be. If I couldn't get over 400 flywheel hp than i doubt i would do it. What do you all think, I am sure others have dreamed this before. The boss 5.0L in the saleen get 390 hp, 390 torque, so a 5.4L should have potentially more, right?

Ahhh.. I think your looking in the wrong direction here for an NA setup. While the 5.4 will give you more displacement than the 4.6 (obviously) and has more potential for things like heads, cams and the like to make more power, your also gaining ALOT of weight, which unless your looking into aftermarket heads and cams, is going to offset any gains your gonna see.
And to answer your question about power, I have tuned a few customers F-150's with the 5.4, and they generally see about 15 to 20 horse and 20 to 25 ft/lbs at the rear wheels with just a tune on an otherwise stock motor.
If you wanna stay NA, I'd look into the bog bore stroker kits instead. They will get you in the same displacement area as the 5.4 ( I think the biggest I saw was a 322 ci, which is right about 5.2 liters), and keep the lighter aluminum block and heads, and is forged if later you change your mind and want some FI or a big shot of giggle gas.
