wider tires?

wider tires?
Hey so its that time again, new tires... I was thinking about getting wider tires than the stock ones, and was just wondering if there is anything involved in it. I still want the 18s (i'd get AM bullits), but i would want a wider tire.. what size is best? and also, what all is involved in changing the size? I know i need to update the tune to the new rotations but is it basically just take a tire off and put the new one on, or is it something that should be done at a tire shop? thanks

"Best", if such a thing exists, is a combination of tire size and wheel width. And what it is that you want to get out of it (appearance only, straight line, ride comfort, cornering) as no single wheel/tire combination favors all of those conditions.
But at least choose a tire size such that it has at least OE load capacity and with a "rim width range" that covers your chosen rim width. Even this may involve a little bit of "chasing your own tail" since not all tire mfrs make all sizes in all of their models.
245/45 and 255/45-18's will work on 8.5" and 9.5"
275/40's and 285/40-18's belong on 9.5" or wider.
245/45 and 275/40 are slightly shorter than OE and may need a small correction. The 255/45 and 285/40 will not.
