Exclamation HELP!!! engine noise under WOT

Hey guys, I am getting an engine pinging noise at WOT around 5250 to 6000 RPM range. This noise also happens when cursing around 75-80 MPH and start to accelerating in fifth gear. This problem really started around the time I had put the headers on and, right now I am babying it because I cannot afford any major engine problems. So, any help you guys could lend would be greatly appreciated I am a little worried if I have to take it to the dealer. My Mustang is a ’07 with JBA Shorty headers, a K&N FIPK intake, and a Diablo Predator with the K&N FIPK tune installed.

Are you getting a CEL? If you added the headers after the tune, then you may need new tunes but you may be ok because of the shorties. But the K&N FIPK tune, IMO, isn't anywhere near as good a tune as you can get. I'd contact Bama for some new tunes and then go from there.

Too much timing. Contact your tuner he will tell you what points to datalog. Email the file back to the tuner, he will adjust your spark tables to get rid of the pinging and email a new tune back to you.

Or, you could have gotten some bad gas.

Are you sure it's pinging? The reason I ask is the JBAs are really tight and tend to rub the passenger side frame rail. If you want to diagnos this yourself go out into the garage and look. Take a flashlight with you and look at where the tube comes really close to the frame (I know it's unibody but it looks like a frame rail sort of). If it has been hitting you will be able to see some pain missing.

The solution is to put prothane motor mounts on.

If that's not it, you can take your predator and pull 2 degrees of timing from 4000-7000 rpms. Then you can half a degree at a time.

I did not need a retune with the JBA's.
