Throttle body and air intake question.

I am really confused here.
You are willing to spend several hundred bucks to add some stuff...then say you cannot afford to run 91-93 octane and need to use 87 octane.
figure you fill up each tank about 10 gallons per fill.

@ $3.20 (87 octane) = about $33.00
@$3.50 (92 octane) = about $35.00
that is a whopping difference of maybe $3.00 per tank. you can't even buy a fancy coffee for that money.
not trying to be a jerk, but WTF?

Thats looks like to me about $3 per 10 gallons.
Now use the times key on the ol calculator and
put that to a years worth of fuel and it adds up.
Gas is still cheaper tham Milk and Bottled water.
Not trying to be an apple cart upsetter here, but WTF...

To answer the question, yes you can run an 87 tune with the cai. Usually you can specify 3 tunes when you buy the package. Always get an 87 in case you are somewhere premium isn't available. The only difference in the tunes is timing, less octane = less timing and less power. Then if you want to change to your premium tune it's as simple as loading a new tune.
BTW the 87 tune will have more power than the stock tune.

Hahaha no no. Im not 16yrs old! Im married with children, its my wife that complains about gas. im looking for all excuses i can before she bitches at me for having to dump more $$$. I have thousands and thousands in my 67's. I dont want to hear it since my 06 is now my dd. I am pretty new to the newer stangs but I know how this stuff works.

I know there are members here who run the 87 tune with a cai, I'm surprised they haven't chimed in yet.

I run 91 octane as a matter of course to get the little bit more performance.
I am a fan of using Ford parts whenever possible. All of the CAI's will give you roughly the same HP/TQ gains. The secret is in the tuning. I like the kit below because it comes with the FRPP Tunes as well. But you can still run custom tunes later if wanted
edit: not to mention the CAI has the molded stuff around it. most CAI's on the market are just a filter & tube sitting in the engine bay
