Default Pype Bombs w/ stock H pipe and manifold?

I’m looking for some feedback on the Pypes Pype Bombs from people with otherwise stock exhaust. I’ve read a lot of posts here (read the entire exhaust sticky, etc.) where people with X pipes, LTs, etc. have chimed in – but not many with stock setups. Right now, I have a completely stock exhaust and am looking for more volume and a deeper tone. The reasons I’m looking at the Pype Bombs are: price (I have a hard time spending much on mods that don’t make the car any faster), looks (I hate the look of the stock mufflers hanging out from under the bumper), and drone-free operation (correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like there may be less drone with these than most of the chambered mufflers?).

My biggest fear is noise. I want more noise, but I don’t want to wake the dead, announce to my entire neighborhood that I’m coming or going, or attract attention from the local authorities. On the other hand, I don’t want to go through the trouble and expense of replacing the mufflers to say “yeah, I think it might be a little louder than stock”. Since it seems like headers and X pipes make such a difference in sound, I’m looking for feedback from those with stock systems and Pype Bombs. Are they too loud? Just right? Drone?

Sorry for starting yet another exhaust thread and thanks in advance for any feedback!

Thanks but I've listened to all of the sound clips on AM, here, and YouTube - while they help you with the tone of the exhaust, they are not much help to compare volume - especially during cruising. I even hooked up my computer to my home theater system. The sound clips sound great, but nothing's like hearing the real thing.

I think my question was answered by a post I found on Stangnet. A poster claimed to have been issued a ticket for noise with Pype Bombs and an otherwise factory exhaust setup. The sounds clips online sound good, but if it's loud enough to get a ticket, it's too loud for me. Looks like it might be back to the drawing board...

Thanks - I guess I should clarify - It's not that I'm worried about getting tickets. My thought is that any setup that could get a ticket (even if just from a mean cop) is too loud for me. I want louder than stock, but don't want to be that guy that goes through an intersection and everybody just stares and shakes their heads in pity...

the thing is loud/noise level is subjective. what may sound like loud noise to my ears may be music to yours. im bothered by alot of things that sound loud, but to others sounds just fine. but then again i have sensitive ears, i can hear things/frequencies others cant.

that being said, getting a good sample size of opinions is probably the best way to judge it short of hearing it in person.

from what ive read id guestimate that the pypes are louder than you are wanting. if you think its going to be to loud for you it probably is.

it sounds like you want a bit more sound, but still reasonable quite, minimal drone.

the best matches for that from what ive read would be the corsa touring, the gta mufflers, or the 2010 oem gt500 mufflers.

ive heard the delta 60 american thunder axle back is supposed to have minimal drone. louder than stock, more rumble, but not to loud supposedly. but im weary of flowmaster after my previous experience with them. (had classic 40 series on my truck years ago) but then again that was their loudest noisiest muffler at the time. the delta 60 is supposed to be much quiter.

i have NOT read one complaint about the corsas. not one. i know there pricey, but if your willing to pay for em, and you want to get it done in one go (not switching exhausts every month like some of us trying to be cheap and still can't find the one we want...lol) the corsas are probably your best bet.

Totally agree about the noise level being subjective. The only way to really know is to hear it with my own ears. I also agree that if I worry it will be louder than I want, it probably will be.

I've read through the exhaust sticky a few times and read dozens of other threads here. Based on my budget (as I said, I don't want to spend much just for sound), I'm seriously considering the SSS Adrenaline from Stangmods.

well ill just say this, expect round bodied chamberless designs like that to be louder and have significantly more drone then the chambered mufflers. there may be exceptions, but its a good rule of thumb while shopping.

basically those are going to be somewhere in between the chambered mufflers like flow masters and the chamberless muffler deletes like pypes bombs in volume.

im running the chamberless magnapacks on my stang right now. the over all volume IE: wide open throttle isn't bad, but the drone is very very loud and very bad. its why im getting rid of it and going with another setup. basically it comes down to how much drone can you tolerate. or like some, maybe you happen to like the sound of drone. it buzzes the hell out of my car.
