Transmission oil has a distinct smell. The reason they "perfume" oils is so you know
what it is.

As I said, if it's a continual leaking of TRANS fluid, then it's a seal, or it's blowing out the
vent.

Also, as said, if coolant is leaking at that heater hose under the intake, it will seem like a
trans oil leak.

Hi, I finally took my car to a Ford dealer, here are the conclusions:
1) There is only a very very small leak from the auto transmission Gasket, nothing to worry about according to the Garage, the transmission oil level was fine
2) The huge coolant leak comes from the heater pipe under the intake manifold, as you expained guys, you spotted it !

Price for repairing: 500 $

I'll get my car back next tuesday, and will enjoy it

Have a great day !

If you stick a flashlight under the intake and take a peak, you will probably have a puddle of fluid there in the valley between the heads or at least signs of evaporated coolant.

Here's a vid about it from a youtuber on it along with my comments to the youtuber below:

"Nice vid! Just tackled this same leak on my 08. Couple of things; Ford offers the elbow by itself, Motorcraft Kt-92. The hose size on the Ford elbow is 3/4, same as the metal pipe on the other side. Way easier to install the 3/4 inch hose vs fighting with the 5/8."

Yes the intake manifold must be taken off to work on it. It's a simple job if you are prepared and should take less than an hour. Hardest part is removing the intake.

I *think* I may be having this issue. I will check under the manifold today if it is not raining. Does anyone know if you can just change the o-ring in the quick connect fitting, and the part #?

Thanks!

If that section of hose under the intake is leaking at either end or the hose itself, it's best to simply replace the elbow and hose at the same time. The plastic and hose get brittle and lose elasticity from age and heat. If you simply try to replace the O-ring you'll either bust the elbow trying to get it off or it will leak again after a short while.

$500? Ouch! Hope that's for both and includes a complete trans fluid swap!? Also, for the hose, they probably replaced the entire hose that runs from under the manifold to the firewall. Ford doesn't offer just the elbow fitting and rubber hose as an OEM part number.

Any leak from the 5r55S is not a good thing since it's not a dipstick type setup. It's not difficult to check the fluid level but it is inconvenient to check and top off continuously.
