i found that i didnt have to get a gt drive line just the spline peice, so u remove it from the u jouint(the 4 cycl spline) and put a fresh u joint and 5.0 spline in there, u can save some cash doing this as a driveline can cost over $100 and i bought the spline for $15 and u joint for $6. also need a tranny crossmember with 2 humps to bolt on a stock gt exaust style set up. i didnt change my shockes or rear end on either of the last 2 swaps, had no probs, but man it lowered the car like 2"!!! i had issues with the 80 gia 4.2l v8 cus it came with a c-3 i think and its got a longer bellhousing so i had a custom driveline made shorter for that one. watch out for the 80-81 stang v8s they arent 5.0s however u cant tell since they have the same block as the 302, and you will be sorry since they only made 119hp. all 302 stuff fit them except pistons i believebut its a waste of a motor considering in atleast 92 and 93 the 4 banger made like 107hp and is lighter than a 4.2l which i still own but refuse to use again cus my car will still be just as slow and only sound better!!!!

Yeah, the 4 cyl. transmission will work, you just need to mod it a little bit. I went ahead and bought a 5.0 transmission because I had a few extra dollars lying around. Although if you are on a budget, the 4 cyl will work just fine.

And I don't know why everyone started talking about fenders....but 50resto has them for around $80.

the main reason i wouldn't use a 4 banger transmission is gearing. first is short and will cause a lot of traction problems and fifth doesn't drop your rpms as much since it's geared for a car with less than half the power and torque
