Sputtering at idle - Engine dies out (while hot)
This happend for the first time after driving the car for three weeks. Im with a friend of mine, cruising down a semi busy road, making plenty of stop -n- goes. Suddenly, it felt as if my fuel pump was going bad, my engine started to sputter and then it died out. Tried to start it back up but it just wouldn't start. Now, my question is, what exactly is over heating? Is it a fuel pump gone bad, or a distributor over heating, disrupting currents? Im not sure how good the stock heat guage is, but its sitting about a 1/3 above cool and ditto for my oil pressure from 0 (At idle).

I've been having same problem....
Car runs fine till gets good and hot, then sputters and dies.
thought might be vapor lock so I've tried changinig fuel filter ....... same problem.
Car has plenty of power till gets hot ........... so dont think it's the fuel pump.
I'm now thinking it might be clogged Cat converters
since my car has about 100k miles.
If you have a high mileage car with original exhaust that might be problem.

I have O/R H with flowmasters, no cats to be clogged. Im thinking the distributor is over heating, screwing all kinds of electric currents in the process. Although my fuel pump makes a loud whine when its sputter, as if it's not pumping gas. When it's running, it won't whine nearly as loud

if you think its a fuel problem, try a new fuel filter.
if your fuel filter is clogged it could restricting flow at idle and
there may not be enough excess fuel being pumped thru
the systme to keep it from vapor locking after the fuel lines
get hot. Remember gasoline boils at like 95 degrees and
the fuel rails on the top of engine get a lot hotter than that.

ya like PRO50SC said make sure fuel and spark is good. then go fromm there. if your fuel pump is making a lot of noise that wasn't there before i would defintly change it...and the fuel filter as well
